I have recently been contacted by a number of constituents in Kilsyth who have raised their concerns that the baby room at St Patrick’s Nursery Centre in Kilsyth is likely to close in a few weeks during the October holidays. This follows parents receiving a letter from North Lanarkshire Council and unfortunately this is the only facility of this kind in Kilsyth, with the next nearest being some distance away in Cumbernauld.
Concerns have been raised with me that despite the reason for this closure being given as budget pressures two similar facilities in Coatbridge only a mile apart have been unaffected, meaning that once again Kilsyth has been disproportionately affected by a decision taken by North Lanarkshire Council.
I am alarmed at the manner in which North Lanarkshire Council has communicated this closure to parents at the nursery and in particular the lack of warning they received. I have written to the council to ask that they reconsider their decision to close this facility, particularly when the alternative provision is so far from the current site. Any concerned parents are welcome to get in touch with my office on 01236 453969 or Jamie.firstname.lastname@example.org
